The speed of web evolution is ever increasing. Dan Monaghan , founder of Clear Summit Group and co-founder of WSI , was one of the keynote speakers at last year’s Springboard event where he spoke on “ Web3 and the Changing Digital Environment for Business .” Here are some interesting insights.
What is the difference between Web3, Web 1.0 and Web 2.0?
In 1995 we had Web 1.0, where some people were debating the meaning of the @ symbol, while others were saying that every business would be on the Internet by the year 2000. People were just surfing the Web and visiting existing sites, and some service turkey whatsapp number data providers were trying to gain more online users ( anyone remember when we used to get AOL CDs in the mail? ). By 1996, the first McDonald’s site was created, and franchisees were quickly embracing Web 1.0.
With Web 2.0, users began to contribute to the web instead of just browsing it . Wikipedia seo practices to wnhance your customer experience tapped into people’s knowledge, and social networks like Facebook and Instagram began to create communities and user-generated content.
Today, the major Web 2.0 platforms (such as Meta, Alphabet, and Amazon) own and control everything. Their centralized business model means that we (the users) receive free services while they (the platforms) can sell our privacy, information, and attention cmo email list to the highest bidder.
All that will change with Web3 because it has to do, precisely, with decentralization .
What is Web3?
Web3 is trustless and permissionless, offering an immersive experience and a semantic web. To understand Web3 and decentralization, you will need to understand blockchain because it is the technology that lies at the heart of Web3.
All sites, platforms, and companies in Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 had a central database, and the owners of those platforms owned and controlled access to their platforms. However, blockchain (and Web3) decentralizes the database by sharing it with all nodes in the network. In the case of Web3, there is no single database (it is completely transparent and incorruptible because it is completely visible to everyone).
